Working with an Architect

Architects are passionate about their work and uphold a longstanding tradition of creativity, innovation and professional excellence.

In New Zealand only a Registered Architect can advertise themselves as an architect. Registered Architects add value to your building project through their design insights, as well as through their ability to manage the technical and administrative components of your project.

NZIA Architectural Practices have access to ongoing professional training. The NZIA supports and encourages innovative, sustainable and exciting architectural design through the active promotion of standards of excellence in its architectural practices.

Your architect is a creative and technical specialist who will provide you with a comprehensive service. Prior to starting work on creating your new design, you should negotiate the terms and conditions with your architect. You are entering into a business relationship with your architect and clarity is important.

You should expect to sign an Agreement for Architect's Services before commencing the design process. The Agreement for Architect's Services will cover the scope of services to be provided, how fees and costs will be charged and any special conditions of service.
